Most frequent questions and answers
Yes, you need to make Mei your default texting app.
When signing into Mei, pick your country code on the left side and add your phone number without – and (). If you don’t see your country code, please reach out to feedback@textmei.com. After you’ve added your phone number tap “Log In”. You will then be taken to the verification screen. The verification code will be added automatically, or you’ll receive a SMS and need to type it in manually.
What if I don’t receive the verification code?
- Your carrier has blocked short code numbers (T-Mobile is known for doing this). You need to call your carrier and ask them to unblock it. You should then be able to receive the verification code.
- You don’t have connection/service.
- You don’t have a working phone plan/number.
We support all Android phones that meet the following requirements:
- You Android phone is running Android OS 4.4 or later.
- Your Android phone is able to receive SMS during the verification process.
Note: We don’t support tablets and Wi-Fi only devices at this time.
You can easily update Mei from your phone’s application store (if it doesn’t do it automatically).
Go to the Play Store, then tap Menu (icon) -> My apps & games. Tap update next to Mei.
- Alternatively, go to the Play Store and search for Mei. Tap update under Mei.
We encourage you to always use the latest version of Mei. Latest versions contain the newest features and bug fixes.

You can either stay on the upload screen until it’s done, or you can click the “Exit This Screen” button to get back to your conversation list. The upload process will continue in the background and you’ll see the process bar above your folders and labels. You’ll not be able to use any intelligence features until initialization process is complete. If the upload is successful, you’ll see credits on the top right side.
What if the upload fails?
- If the upload process stops at 80% it means that it timed out. The most common issue is that you have too many messages. Email feedback@textmei.com if this occurs.
- Once in a while our server might be down or we’re doing some maintenance. If you see any of these error codes, just try again later. “Sorry our servers are temporarily unavailable or at capacity”, “Slow network connection, please check your network status”, “Network connection gone down”.

- Not delete our app. To do this, you need to uninstall from outside our app.
